Our Team
We have a dynamic and highly supportive Special Education Team at St Brigid’s National School.
Our Support teachers and Special Needs Assistants work creatively to support, enhance and supplement the learning that takes place in classrooms.
Special Class
In September 2021, our junior Special Class opened with Mrs McGrath and two wonderful SNA’s working closely with the children. For further information on our special class, please contact the school reception at: secretary@stbrigidslimerick.ie
What does support look like?
Pupils who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) are identified by class teachers and additional support may be provided following consultation with parents.
Children may have access to a Support Plan personalised to meet their individual needs. All of the work we do is supported by NEPs ( The National Educational Psychological Service)
Together we aim to help all students develop to their full potential, as well as support their well-being and social/emotional development.
Pupil voice plays a key part in all support offered to children and we are always keen to explore new approaches and strategies to ensure success for all pupils.
In Class Learning Initiatives
Our team work with class teachers to plan Mata sa Rang, Literacy lift off and Group reading activities to meet the needs of all children in class.
A key starting point of these initiatives is robust assessment which allows us to identify the children’s strengths and difficulties and plan accordingly to meet their needs at that current moment in time.
Some children may benefit from a short term plan of support which is constantly reviewed and adapted
Resources
We have a wide selection of resources to meet the needs of all pupils at St Brigid’s School including:
Assistive technology, calm spaces, sensory toys, differentiated curriculum resources and access to a highly skilled and experienced SEN team.
