Brief History

St Brigid’s N.S. was founded in 1974. Our first classes were held in the hall of St. Brigid’s Church before we moved into two pre-fabricated buildings on a green-field site beside the old Blood Mill Road. Since then, as the new parish community grew so did the school. In 1980, we got our first permanent building. In 2002, the new infant department was built, leaving only two pre-fabs. However, due to further growth in pupil numbers we had to build a double pre-fab in September 2006. The building of an additional two clasrooms and four learning support rooms was completed in 2011. This extension was opened in 2012.

Information & Resources

Our staff numbers have grown from 2 teachers in 1974, to today’s 29 teachers, 5 Special Needs Assistants, a secretary and a caretaker. The school is managed by a very committed Board of Management and supported strongly by a hard-working Parents Council.

Mission Statement

In St. Brigid’s we aim to create an environment for the children where they will feel happy and secure and be treated as individuals and in which their self-esteem is fostered. To enable the child to live a full life as a child and to realise his/her potential as a unique individual. To prepare the child for further education and life long learning. To enable the child to develop as a social being through living and co-operating with others and so contributing to the good of society. To promote a close link and positive partnership with our parents and the wider community. To nurture a Catholic ethos, while welcoming children from all cultures and religions.(Please note that St. Brigid’s N.S. is a Catholic School under the patronage of the The Bishop of Limerick.)
